Support sought for District Nursing Association

Fri, 11/24/2017 - 7:00am

The Boothbay Region District Nursing Association was founded in 1952 by a group of local citizens who were concerned about the health and welfare of their friends and neighbors in Boothbay Harbor, Boothbay and Southport. Thanks to these caring and dedicated community members, and all those who followed them, the BRDNA continues to be an essential life-saving service to our community’s most frail and vulnerable residents.

Laurie Andrews, a registered nurse with over 27 years of nursing experience, has served as our community’s district nurse since 2015. In her role, Andrews works closely with all of her patients’ physicians to provide individualized nursing care that allows people to remain in their own homes and maintain their independence for as long as possible. Some of the services she provides include: Pre-pouring medications or prefilling insulin syringes, drawing blood for doctor ordered lab work, administering immunizations, teaching patients and families healthcare procedures, supporting catheter care, monitoring on-going health problems and identifying new health problems as they occur.

For those who have ability to pay, BRDNA asks for a $10 donation per visit. BRDNA receives no funding from Medicare, MaineCare or private insurance. To make ends meet, it relies on contributions from the towns of Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor and Southport, as well as donations from individuals and businesses. If you would like to make a tax -deductible charitable contribution, you may do so by mailing a check to: BRDNA, 19 St. Andrews Lane, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

If you are in need of nursing care, please call the District Nurse at 207-633-5533 for assistance.
