Tennis exhibition, NAMI Maine spotlighted at YMCA
The Boothbay Region YMCA will be hosting a free tennis exhibition, featuring four pro players, on Thursday, April 10 for enthusiasts' enjoyment and to bring awareness to the organization, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Maine). NAMI Maine works to improve the lives of anyone impacted by mental health challenges.
The exhibition will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Prior to the exhibition, there will be a free cardio tennis session from 5 to 5:45 p.m. for all ages (red ball and above) with the four pro players on hand to offer tips.
The four pro players will include:
Lucinda Gurney Holbach: Lucinda was an All-American at the University of North Carolina and two-time Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year. She has been ranked as high as 200 in the world in singles and doubles.
Mike Hill: This Topsham native was Maine State Singles Champion three years in a row, held a national ranking as a junior and then played first singles for Brown University.
Chantalle Lavertu: The Y's own Chantalle has a big game! She lead the Lewiston Blue Devils to four consecutive state titles and was one of the state’s top high school players. She then went on to play at Bowdoin where she was a key contributor in both singles and doubles on a team that ranked sixth in the nation.
Alex Arsenault: This Boothbay native was ranked in the top ten in the state of Maine his senior year of high school. Alex was the first Boothbay player to make the round of 32 in the statewide singles tournament three years in a row. He was also first team All-Commonwealth Coast Conference all four years at Nichols College in either doubles or singles and Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Year his freshman season.
