Thoughts in mid-July

It’s not too late to get out on the water. I haven’t been on a boat to see our beautiful coastline for several years. I always hand off the coverage of the Parade of Sail on Windjammer Days to others. On my list of things to do this summer; I hope it’s on your list, too.

No matter what your political affiliation, the attempted assassination of Donald Trump was insane. A disturbed young man who wanted to change history by a cowardly act.

I think Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library’s 100th anniversary celebration last week was well done. There was something to do for all ages and, like a fine book, there was nothing to bog you down – unless you had too many hot dogs!

Can’t wait for this humid weather to break. I am not one to work or play outside when the weather forecaster calls for dew points that are above 60.

A couple of nice fundraisers coming up. Boothbay Harbor Fire Department will be holding a barbecue on July 27, from noon to 3 p.m., at Sherman Field, Boothbay Region High School. If the humidity returns, perhaps I should volunteer to get on the dunk tank! No pictures, staff, if I do. Also, the Boothbay Fire Station is the location of an Aug. 10 benefit, from 1 to 4 p.m., for a man diagnosed with a brain tumor. Lobsters, hamburgers and hot dogs will be served and there will be live music. Donations will be gratefully accepted.

Surprise! The Boston Red Sox are playing better than what I expected. The starting pitching has improved, the young dudes are hitting and it has been fun to watch. Hopefully the dog days of August won’t wear them out.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
