Trevett Column: Another potluck June 19
May’s potluck was such a good time we are going to do it again on June 19. Irena and her team would like you to bring either a main or side dish or a dessert to share. If you are bringing guests, you might want to bring extra. As always, water and coffee will be provided but you are welcome to bring your beverage of choice. You may contact Evelyn (380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com) with any questions. See you at 5:30.
After dinner, Bill and Brian will be presenting an informal history of Barters Island. This should be entertaining as well as informative, especially for those new to the Island. You won't want to miss it.
Thanks to Wendy and Joanne who manned the kitchen and kept things moving along. Supervisor Louise gave them both high marks for a job well done. And special thanks to Bill, dishwasher operator extraordinary. There was a great assortment of food items and many, many desserts. No one went home hungry.
Dan Gardner, EMS Chief and leader of Boothbay Region Ambulance Service provided the 50+ folks in attendance with information about urgent care calls, transfer calls, patient co-pays, insurance payments, reimbursements, who decides where patient goes, payroll, fund raising, Life Flight, AED’s, and many other topics. Lots of questions and lots of answers. We appreciate Dan taking the time to stop by the hall.
It’s crunch time and time to get super serious about the Better Than a Yard Sale. Saturday, July 6 will be here in a flash. We are in need of either indoor or outdoor plants and containers. We are also in need of baked goods. So bake something now and put it in your freezer and then bake again closer to the sale. And of course we need your amazing donated items keeping in mind that we don’t accept clothing, large piece of furniture or electronics. Your donations will be able to be delivered directly to the BICA after the June 19 potluck. Stand by for a drop-off schedule. This sale is BICA’s only fund raiser and the proceeds help cover hall maintenance, utilities, fuel, insurance and most importantly, community assistance so it is imperative that it is successful.
Laura and Bucky got the popular lobster raffle off to a great start at the May potluck. Tickets will again be available at the June and July potlucks with the final drawing taking place at the August picnic. If you want to buy tickets at another time just let Evelyn know. A dollar for one ticket and the smarter buy of 6 tickets for $5.
Stanley Sr. and Loriann operate Seacoast Redemption located at 15 Hardwick Road (next to Dolphin Mini Golf). They will donate the value of your returnables to BICA if you let them know that it what you want them to do. So recycle your returnables, help BICA and treat yourself to an ice cream while you are about it. Thanks to Stan and Loriann for their generosity.
The books on the windowsills are available to take and you are welcome to leave some that your neighbors might be interested in.
BICA can always use help—if you would like to volunteer to help host a potluck please get in touch with Evelyn to learn more about how it works.
