Waterfront parking
While parking is certainly at a premium during the summer, a visitor from Massachusetts might have taken things too far on the afternoon of Aug. 3. The man was attempting to park his Toyota Prius behind Grover’s Hardware and didn’t notice where the parking lot ends and the ledge begins, he said. Fortunately, no small thanks to the dead low tide, he was not injured, just embarrassed and a little lighter in the wallet as the vehicle sustained significant damage to the body. A similar mishap occurred last summer in the same lot. A pickup truck plunged into the harbor after the motorist forgot to set a parking brake.
“If this keeps up we’ll have to put in a boat landing,” said Sgt. Patrick Higgins of the Boothbay Harbor Police Department.
