Waynflete downs Boothbay girls 65-44
The Boothbay Lady Seahawks scored their highest point total in any of their first six games with 44 Jan. 2 versus Waynflete, but it was not enough. Waynflete, a private school in Portland, defeated Boothbay, 65-44, behind Flyer junior Lauren McNutt-Girouard’s game high 31 points and six 3-pointers at Porter Memorial Gymnasium.
Boothbay held a 5-4 lead midway in the first quarter, after Magen Burge hit the first of her three 3-pointers. McNutt-Girouard connected on three first quarter 3-points of her own propelling her team to victory. Burge scored 12 points leading Boothbay in scoring.
Besides Burge, Boothbay had two other players scoring in double figures. Bella Orr scored 11 and Tatum French had 10. Meg Sledge scored eight, Anna Gosselin had two and Maddie Orchard tallied one.
Boothbay is now 1-5 and in 13th place in the Class C South Heal point standings. Waynflete improves to 4-0, and is in third place in the Class D South standings.
Boothbay hosts Class B Lisbon (0-4) at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3.
