This week at the Harbor Theatre
The Harbor Theatre presents the final “Belle” screenings Wednesday, June 18 and Thursday June 19, at 7 p.m. “The Fault In Our Stars” plays Friday, June 20, through Tuesday, June 24. The long awaited “Chef” movie arrives June 25.
“Belle” was inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Admiral Sir John Lindsay (Matthew Goode). Raised by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) and his wife (Emily Watson), Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet her status prevents her from the traditions of noble social standing. While her cousin Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) chases suitors for marriage, Belle is left on the sidelines wondering if she will ever find love. After meeting an idealistic young vicar's son bent on changing society, he and Belle help shape Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.
The Arizona Republic calls “Belle “a beautiful period piece, but it’s also something more: a study of racism, classism and sexism in 18th-century England.”
“Belle,” rated PG, plays Wednesday, June 18, and Thursday, June 19, at 7 p.m.
“The Fault In Our Stars,” based on the number-one bestselling novel by John Green, explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love. Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them on an unforgettable journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous, given that they met and fell in love at a cancer support group. The film stars Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Nat Wolff and Laura Dern.
Peter Travers, writing for Rolling Stone, describes “The Fault In Our Stars” as “a fresh, lively love story, brimming with humor and heartbreak, and lifted to the heights by Shailene Woodley, a sublime actress with a résumé that pretty much proves she's incapable of making a false move on camera.”
“The Fault In Our Stars,” rated PG-13, plays Friday, June 20, through Tuesday, June 24, nightly at 7 p.m. and also Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.
Starting Wednesday, June 25, the long-awaited “Chef” movie, directed, co-produced, written by and starring Jon Favreau with Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofía Vergara, Dustin Hoffman, Oliver Platt and John Leguizamo.
