This week at the movies in Boothbay Harbor, Damariscotta
At The Harbor Theatre
“The Trip To Italy” In this witty and incisive sequel to 2010's “The Trip,” Michaels Winterbottom reunites comedians Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon (portraying semi-fictionalized versions of themselves) on a restaurant tour of Italian locations including Tuscany, Rome, Amalfi and ending in Capri.
The pair are retracing the steps of the Romantic poets' grand tour of Italy while indulging in sparkling banter and impersonation-offs. The characters enjoy mouthwatering meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri while riffing on subjects as varied as Batman's vocal register, the artistic merits of "Jagged Little Pill," and, of course, the virtue of sequels. Plays Wednesday, Oct. 8 and Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
“My Old Lady” Mathias Gold (Kevin Kleine) is a down-on-his-luck New Yorker who inherits a Parisian apartment. When he arrives in France to sell the vast domicile, he's shocked to discover a live-in tenant who is not prepared to budge. His apartment is a viager — an ancient French real estate system with complex rules pertaining to its resale — and the feisty Englishwoman Mathilde Girard (Maggie Smith), who has lived in the apartment, with her daughter Chloé (Kristin Scott Thomas) for many years, can, by contract, collect monthly payments from Gold until her death.
Philadelphia Inquirer reviewer Steven Rea says, “Smith, the grand dame of British theater and film, is wickedly wry and quick.”
“My Old Lady” is rated PG13. Plays Friday, Oct. 10 and Saturday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 12 at 3 and 7 p.m.
The Harbor Theatre is located at 185 Townsend Avenue, Meadow Mall, Boothbay Harbor. For more information, call 207-633-0438 or visit www.harbortheatre.net.
