What it is … and isn’t

The wooden bin outside Nathan’s Wellness Pharmacy & Apothecary at the Meadow Mall, Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor has been in place for over two years.

When Andrew and Maria Robertson, owners of Nathan's, graciously began accepting donations of food and supplies for pets at their business, through the urging of local pet advocate Lawrence Pitcher, the response was so great, the store was getting crowded.

Pitcher then put out a call for someone to build a bin for the supplies. Supplying the wood and building the bin was Mac McElhinney of Boothbay.

“It sometimes gets mistaken for a trash bin,” said Pitcher. “Hopefully the sign on the top will make people realize what the bin is for.”

Animal shelter staff empty the bin when available. Those wishing to start or continue to donate cat or dog food and supplies are welcome to do so, said Pitcher.
