Will Perkins places 85th at New England XC Championship
Seahawk Will Perkins stretched his cross-country season to the New England Championships, held Nov. 9 in Manchester, Connecticut. Perkins placed 85th out of 260 runners with a time of 16:59.
“Will broke the 17-minute mark on a really challenging course … and perhaps one of the best indications of what a great race Will ran was how he finished in comparison to his fellow Maine athletes,” said Seahawks Coach Nick Scott.
Top finishers were: Gavin Sherry of Conard, Connecticut, first, 15:30; Robbie Cozean, Xavier, Connecticut, second, 15:34; Jack McLoughlin, La Salle Academy, Rhode Island, third, 15:35; Lisandro Berry-Gaviria, Mt. Ararat, Maine, fourth, 15:42; Evan Reynolds, Warwick, Rhode Island, fifth, 15:43; Will Shaughnessy, Brunswick, Maine, sixth, 15:45; Jake Velasquez, Keene, New Hampshire, seventh, 15:47; Henry Farrington, Essex, Vermont, eighth, 15:53; Joseph Curra, Nashua North, New Hampshire, ninth, 16:05; and Luke Henseler, Bishop Hendricken, Rhode Island,10th, 16:07.
Perkins was bested only by 12 other runners representing Maine and he outpaced 36 other Mainers. He was outrun by milliseconds by Abbott Valentine of Hampden. Scott noted that when the Maine State Championships’ results of all three classes (A, B, and C) are combined, Perkins placed 23rd, making his performance at New Englands a great improvement.
The Seahawks cross country teams will be holding their awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Nov. 13 in the Boothbay Region High School cafeteria.
