Winslow thwarts Boothbay LAX rally with 13-12 victory
Nobody has beaten the Winslow Black Raiders in schoolgirl lacrosse this season, but on May 29, Boothbay came close. Winslow is 12-0 and in second place in the Class C Heal point standings. The Black Raiders were poised for another victory in Winslow on Tuesday, leading Boothbay with 16 minutes and 21 seconds remaining in the match. But three consecutive Boothbay goals tied the contest.
Sydney Meader trimmed the Black Raider lead to two with a goal with 14 minutes and seven seconds remaining. Jackie McLoon pulled the Seahawks to within one goal, and with two minutes 58 seconds remaining, Meader tied it. The contest remained tied until Winslow’s Silver Clukey scored the game winner with 13 seconds left.
Meader won the game’s final draw and attempted, but missed, a final shot with two seconds remaining. Winslow’s win keeps it in second place in the Class C Heal points standings. Boothbay drops to 8-3 and is in fifth place.
Boothbay’s remaining regular season game is at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 31 in Gardiner. Boothbay plays Class B Gardiner-Hall Dale (4-7) who is in 12th place in the standings.
