Winthrop prevails over Boothbay
The Winthrop Ramblers, the top seed and undefeated (15-0) in Class C South, defeated the Boothbay Region Seahawks for the second time this season, 62-45, in Winthrop Friday night, Jan. 27. The Ramblers beat Boothbay at home 11 days ago, 59-45.
Winthrop outscored the Seahawks 29-16 to take a 13-point first half lead with Jacob Hickey scoring 13 points. The Seahawks didn’t close the gap as the teams played even in the second half.
“Winthrop is a very good defensive team, and they forced us into 13 turnovers in the first half, which put us in a hole we couldn’t get out of,” said BRHS Coach I.J. Pinkham via email. “We played pretty well defensively, but struggled getting into our half court offense.”
Hickey was Winthrop’s leading scorer with 17 points, followed by Cam Wood with 15. Boothbay, now 8-7, was led by Kyle Ames with 14 points. Carter Babcock was the Seahawks’ leading rebounder with 11.
Next up for the Seahawks is a game at Dirigo on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Dirigo (4-11) beat Boothbay at BRHS, 69-62, on Dec. 17.
