Boothbay boys lose final regular season match to Dirigo
Boothbay concluded its schoolboy tennis season May 23 with a 4-1 loss to Dirigo in Boothbay Harbor. The two Mountain Valley Conference teams are likely to square off again May 31 in the Class C South tournament as Boothbay (3-7) finished sixth in the Heal point standings and Dirigo (9-1) finished third.
No. 1 singles player Rowan Kristan eaned Boothbay’s lone victory with an 11-10 victory over Brandon Litalien. The two battled to a 10-all tie in the 10-game pro-set format forcing a tiebreaker. Kristan scored a 12-10 tie-break win. Boothbay narrowly missed a second win in doubles. No. 2 team Cody Field and Patrick Conlin lost 9-11 to Dirigo’s Nolan Downs and Brandon Harris. Boothbay’s No. 1 doubles team Ryan Russell and Mason Erhard lost another close match, 8-10, to Jack Lavorgna and Sam Skibitsky.
Dirigo captured the two remaining singles matches. Dirigo’s Alex Gorham defeated Henry Drapeau, 10-4 in second singles and Nate Child defeated Max Hoecker, 10-4, in third singles.
The Maine Principals’ Association high school team tennis tournament begins on Thursday, May 31 at the higher seed’s court.
