Preseason race shows promise for Seahawks runners
The Seahawks cross country teams took part in the annual preseason Panther Two Miler at Medomak Valley High School on Aug. 25.
“We talked before the race about feeling the difference between running and racing and I think it is clear from the results that everyone raced …,” said Coach Nick Scott.
Scott said that compared to the Panther Two Miler’s results last year, there were many improvements. Graham Harris led the boys with a time of 11:55 and finished in fifth place. Fox Elder was close behind in sixth with a time of 12:01. Harris beat last year’s time by 1:32 and Elder by 1:38. Mason Erhard finished 10th in 12:26, 36 seconds better than last year. Ryan Russell placed 15th in 13:12, 35 seconds better than last year. Will LaBrecque was close behind placing 17th in 13:19. Quinn Ranta placed 19th in 13:29, taking 41 seconds off last year’s time.
“Nathan Chatterton, Lucas Hardwick and Gavin Carleson all made their BRHS debuts with some great performances, placing 21st, 23rd and 33rd respectively,” said Scott. Their respective times were 13:43, 13:49 and 14:54.
Faith and Glory Blethen led the girls, placing third and fourth in 13:18 and 13:43. Glory took 17 seconds off her time from last year. Newcomer Grace Campbell placed 21st in 17:15 and Delly Clarkson placed 22nd in 17:25, nearly 2:30 better than last year.
“It was an exceptional start to what promises to be a really successful season,” Scott said.
