5K and half marathon
Whether you participate in the 5K Trail Run or the Half Marathon Sunday, Sept. 2 you will be blown away by the gorgeous scenery!
The 5K Trail Run ... winds through the Boothbay Region Land Trust’s (BRLT) Penny Preserve in Boothbay Harbor. Penny Lake Preserve is a freshwater wetland with adjoining woodlands and open field. At the neck of the lake there is an ADA compliant handicapped accessible trail appropriate for wheelchairs and strollers which crosses a wooden bridge with bench seats. An abundant variety of wildlife may be viewed, including migratory and nesting birds, turtles, beaver, deer, and even a very occasional moose. In addition, numerous plants thrive in this varied natural habitat, from wildflowers to cattails and from hardwood trees to evergreens. (description from BRLT website)
The Half Marathon ... A one of its kind in Maine! This challenging course offers miles of water views, from inner harbor, to open ocean, to lakes and tidal rivers. You’ll cross over two islands and Boothbay Harbor’s historic, 1,000-foot wooden footbridge; pass by three waterfront parks, and wind through Boothbay Harbor village. As festival organizer/founder Lori Reynolds says, “It’s a picturesque and iconic coast of Maine experience that will inspire you to crest the hills. An ideal training course, and the perfect race to plan a family vacation around.”
