Phoenix roll past Seahawks
The Spruce Mountain Phoenix scored four second half goals within a span of seven minutes and went on to defeat the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 6-1, in field hockey at Perkins Field Wednesday, Sept. 5.
Boothbay had cut the Phoenix's 2-0 lead in half when senior co-captain Lexi Lane scored off a pass from junior Chloe Arsenault with 15:21 to play. However, Spruce Mountain put a lot of pressure on the Seahawks’ defense and goalie Madison Barter in the next seven minutes to put the game away. Barter, a first-year senior, managed to stop 14 Phoenix shots during the game. Boothbay managed only four shots on goal against the 3-0 Phoenix.
Emily Castonguay scored two of Spruce Mountain’s goals, while adding one each were Avri Armandi, Brooke Boute, Hanni Johnson and Erin McPherson.
Boothbay, now 1-2, will travel to Winthrop Friday, Sept. 7 for a 4 p.m. game and host Dirigo on Monday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m.
