Cougars edge Seahawks in double OT
Allison Perreault scored with 5:31 left in the second overtime period to give the visiting Dirigo Cougars a 4-3 win over the Boothbay Region Seahawks Monday afternoon at Perkins Field.
Boothbay kept with the now 4-2 Cougars, coming back from two deficits to tie the game at 2-2 and 3-3 in regulation, but couldn’t get off a good shot during the first 8-minute overtime or second overtime before Perreault’s sudden-death goal.
The Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Lizze White scored first at 25:04 and Kaley Hackett scored her first of two goals at the 14:06 mark.
Seahawk junior Chloe Arsenault scored the first of her two goals with 41 seconds to play in the first half on a breakaway.
Boothbay tied the game when freshman Emily Echols scored her first career goal at 21:58 of the second half. Sophomore Cortney Meader assisted on the goal.
Hackett’s second goal at 15:59 made it 3-2 Cougars.
After a free hit, Arsenault picked up the ball near midfield and pushed the ball past a couple of defenders before rocketing the ball into the goal from the left side to tie the game 3-3 at 10:05.
Boothbay falls to 1-4 on the season and will travel to Lisbon on Wednesday to face the Greyhounds, who were 0-3 going into Monday’s game at Telstar.
