BRES cross-country teams compete at GSB
The Boothbay Region Elementary School cross-country team came together to show their toughness on “Killer Hill” at the meet hosted by Great Salt Bay at the Damariscotta River Association’s 2.1 mile trail on Thursday, Sept. 27. Competing in the meet were runners from BRES, Camden Rockport Middle School, Troy Howard Middle School and Medomak Middle School. “Always a tough meet, but our runners have been practicing and have improved quite a bit and it certainly has paid off for them,” said Coach Hildy Johnson.
The girls team, having one member short, is unable to score as a team, but that doesn’t stop them from running hard and improving individually. Maddie Orchard placed first for Boothbay with a time of 19:59 overall, placing 25th in a field of 57 runners. Laura Chapman was on Maddie’s heals placing 26th with a time of 20:10. Grace Campbell followed with a time of 25:23 and Suzie Edwards finishing with a time of 29:09.
The boys team was impressive with our newest member of the team, Dominick Dow, placing first overall out of 53 boys boys with a time of 13:50 followed by Gryffin Kristan in 5th with a time of 14:31, Ryan Clark in 7th with a time of 14:51. CJ Savastano came in next with a time of 19:39 with Gabe Barter (20:47), Slade Balsdon (22:14), Sebastian Burdin-Warren (22:41), Mason Paquette (22:42) and Dylan North (25:28) bringing in the next round of BRES runners.
Boothbay boys placed second overall with a score of 60 behind Camden/Rockport Middle School in first place scoring 23. Great Salt Bay placed third, scoring 74 with Medomak placing fourth, scoring 83.
It was a great day to run with perfect weather and in a fabulously scenic location, said Johnson. Even though there is no school Thursday for students, our next meet is Thursday, Oct. 4 at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast.
