Phoenix outlast Seahawks, 62-56
The Spruce Mountain Phoenix matched every Boothbay run and held on for a 62-56 schoolboy basketball win at Boothbay Region High School Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks trailed at every break, 13-10, 27-19 and 44-36 and closed those gaps in the middle two quarters, but foul trouble and missed scoring opportunities led to the loss.
The Phoenix, now 10-2, took advantage of Boothbay’s foul trouble and scored on several second-chance shots in the second half.
Boothbay, which fell to 10-2, was led by Steve Reny with 15 points, followed by Kaleb Ames with 11, Hunter Crocker with nine, and Ben Pearce with seven. Sullivan Rice and Nicholas Morley each scored five points.
Spruce Mountain was led by Andrew Shaw with 24 points, followed by Kayle Stewart with 15 and Tate Walton with 13.
Weather permitting, Boothbay will host Hall-Dale on Monday and travel to Winthrop on Wednesday.
