A week of great sailing
It has been a glorious week of sailing with multiple beautiful Maine days and plenty of sailing!
Monday began with four new sailors plunging into Cozy Harbor for their swim tests. We welcome Penn and Tor Bauman and Emma and Owen Jacobs. The four new students blended easily into the morning class.
With the steady early morning southerlies we were able to explore a good portion of the Sheepscot River: visiting the seals on the Cat Ledges and meandering through Five Islands across the river.
The afternoon sailors have also taken advantage of the favorable weather, splitting the days between cruising the Sheepscot, participating in drills and racing. After two days of racing in Optimists, Victoria Thompson was in first place, Andrew Turley in second place and Kelley Phippen was in third place.
The Turnabouts had their first day of racing and had multiple races between Cedarbush Island and David’s Island. Cousins Blake Erhard and William LaBreque proved that they were ready for the afternoon class and sailed beautifully. At the end of the day, Blake was in first place, Isaiah Reid and William LaBreque were tied for second place and Jake Brewer was in third place.
July 6, the 420s completed three races. In the first race, Jasper Houston and Annie Britton received first place, Noah Sneath and James Emmerling second place and David Turley and Jennifer Killian third place.
In the second race, Jasper Houston and Annie Britton got first, David Wollins and Grant Auber got second and David Turley and Jennifer Killian finished third.
In the last race, Jasper Houston and Annie Britton finished first again, Noah Sneath and Megan Roach second and David Turley and Jennifer Killian finished third.
Nice work sailors!
“Bingo was his name-o” on Thursday evening when the junior officers held the first bingo of the summer. With more than 20 fabulous prizes donated from local stores in the Southport and Boothbay Regions, kids and adults alike gathered at the Southport Yacht Club to play many vigorous rounds of bingo.
Junior Yacht Club bingo is a successful tradition loved and looked forward to by all and this year was no different! After selling out of all of our bingo cards and playing for nearly two hours, families went home with smiles on their faces looking forward to the August bingo!
