Youth sailing season begins
The sailing season in Boothbay Harbor is underway heralded by a meeting of participants yesterday (Wednesday, April 3) at the Yacht Club. Coach Sally Lloyd met with young sailors and their parents to set the stage for on-water activities which will start on Monday, April 8.
The program, which enters its third season (fall and spring iterations), will provide instruction, daily on-water practice and racing, and participation in regattas held throughout the state in April and May. It is open to all high school and junior high school students from the region and is sponsored and funded by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and with grants from the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Junior Foundation.
Sally Lloyd, head of the BHYC Junior Sailing Program, has coached the team since its inception. Coach Lloyd wants all interested students from the region to feel free to join and participate. The Yacht Club provides dry suits for spring sailing to protect from the cold water at this time of year.
