Southport students practicing for winter concert
The children of Southport Central School are working hard preparing for the winter concert set for 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at Southport Town Hall.
This year’s musical offerings will range from traditional to modern. According to music teacher Jennifer McIvor, the theme is “Coming Together and Making Connections.”
It’s still a work in progress, she said. “But the songs are set and the children are practicing hard.”
Although the musical training has come from McIvor, she stressed it was a group effort. “The support from the teachers is huge, and the school Administration Assistant Eileen Higgins goes above and beyond when it comes to decorating the Town Hall. Every year she transforms the space and makes it look amazing.”
Each class will do at least one number. Songs will include “The Best Gift of All” performed by Nikki Tibbetts’ K-1 class, “Believe” performed by Lisa Clarke’s 2-3 class, and “Sing” performed by Shawn Gallagher’s 4-5-6 class. There will also be violin and piano offerings, a Gospel-style grand finale, and the much loved community sing-along featuring holiday favorites.
