Seahawks get to 5-1 with wins over Mt. Abram, Monmouth
The Boothbay Region Seahawks improved to 5-1 with wins over Mt. Abram and Monmouth this week.
Boothbay guard Kaeden Davis broke a 62-62 tie with a free throw with 26.2 seconds remaining to lift the Seahawks past Mountain Valley Conference rival Mt. Abram on Dec. 20 at Porter Memorial Gymnasium. Davis drove the baseline and was fouled in rebounding his missed shot. He made one of two free throws which put the Seahawks ahead for good. Mt. Abram missed a 12-foot jump shot which was rebounded by forward Hunter Crocker who was fouled. Crocker made both free throws extending Boothbay’s lead to three and preserving Boothbay’s 65-62 victory.
“I saw an open lane and took it,” Davis said in describing how he scored the go-ahead point in the Seahawk victory.
Crocker and Ben Pearce led the Seahawks in scoring with 20 points each. Davis scored 13, Kaleb Ames added nine and Nick Morley had three.
Mount Abram dropped to 5-2 with the loss.
In the second quarter, Ames came off the bench to score seven of his nine points. “I’m ready to go into the game at anytime,” Ames said. “If the defender is playing a certain way I will look for my shot.”
Boothbay struggled throughout the contest matching up against an undersized Roadrunner squad. Mt. Abram consistently used its quickness in gaining access to perimeter shots. “We switched from zone to man but we had a tough time guarding their shooters,” Boothbay Coach I.J. Pinkham said. “In the second half, we ran offense well and it seemed everybody knew what everyone else was doing.”
