Boothbay boys take season opener at Wiscasset
On April 22, the Seahawks boys tennis team started the season with a closely fought match against the Wolverines at Wiscasset. The Boothbay boys defeated Wiscasset, 3-2, taking two out of three singles matches and splitting the doubles games.
Senior Sam Schwehm and freshman Nick Gorey dominated the play in the first and second singles matches. Schwehm easily defeated junior Nate Panarese, 10-2, and Gorey beat freshman J.D. Souza, 10-1.
The rest of the day’s games were more evenly matched. In third singles, BRHS senior Brady Duncan fell just short, losing to sophomore Tom Anderson, 8-10.
In first doubles play, Wiscasset’s Logan Grover and Mason Whitaker beat Ben Betts and Evan Stevens, 10-8. In the final match, Boothbay’s Collin Thompson and Daniel Drummond defeated Andrew Walton and Ridge Barnes, 10-8, to take the second doubles match and the day’s contest.
The Seahawks face Dirigo at home on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. at the YMCA.
