Mustangs trample Seahawks at home
The Monmouth Mustangs baseball team was able to score early and hold off the Boothbay Region High School boys varsity baseball team, 15-2, April 29 at BRHS.
The Mustangs scored five runs in the first inning before BRHS pitcher Linc Simmons settled down and mowed the Mustangs down in order in the second inning.
But Monmouth was able to string together a third inning rally and tack on seven runs. Two more runs were added in the fourth and the last run was scored in the fifth inning.
However, Boothbay wouldn't be shut out. In the third inning shortstop Julian Aponte singled, stole second, reached third on a passed ball then stole home. Zach Vise had walked following Aponte and was brought home by a thundering Nate Colcord double.
That would be it for the Seahawks (0-4), however. The team will seek its first win Wednesday, May 1 at home against Winthrop.
