AUGUSTA — The Maine CDC has updated its list, May 23, of COVID-19 cases in the state of Maine.

Today, there are 2,013 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases across the state, including 1,804 confirmed cases and 209 probable cases. 

Across the state, 1,232 people have recovered from COVID-19, while 77 people have died. The number of people hospitalized, at some point during their illness, across the state stands at 243.

Looking at hospital COVID-19 data, there are currently 50 hospitalized, including 26 in critical care and 11 on a ventilator. There are 156 available critical care beds out of 388 total and 244 available ventilators of 318 total and 439 alternative ventilators. 

By sex, 1,046 females have tested positive in the state and 966 males have tested positive. One person’s sex is listed as unknown by the Maine CDC.

The below cases represents the number of full-time Maine residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the Maine CDC. 

“This is likely an underrepresentation of the true number of cases in Maine since not all individuals are being tested,” the Maine CDC says. “For individuals not considered to be at high risk, medical providers are currently advised to diagnose COVID-19 based on symptoms.” 

Each day, the Maine CDC updates its COVID-19 data on its website with the latest coronavirus numbers from across the state. Today’s update came at 11:30 a.m.
