Boothbay athletes compete at State Special Olympics swim meet
On April 11, the Boothbay Special Olympics swim team traveled to Bates College to compete in the state swim meet. There were 51 teams at the competition. The team had competed the week before at the area competition at Bowdoin College in preparation for the event.
Boothbay athletes returned with the following medals: 13 gold, 17 silver, 15 bronze, 10 fourths, 5 fifths and 3 sixths. We had the slowest Junior relay and took a gold in the Senior Relay. Our master team brought home the silver. Each athlete had an opportunity to compete in two events. Each team could also enter relays.
Blake Smith and Logan Posey showed great improvements. Bobby Edwards and Chloe Desjardins. Amber Hyson, Kasey Graves, Thomas Wilcox, and Valerie Giles led the students with their
fast and beautiful strokes.
Brenda LeConte, with the fastest butterfly time in the state, lead the adult team along with Joey Ranco.
Other athletes swimming for Boothbay were Deshawn Averill, Grace Giles, Matthew Hyson,
Vincent Giles, Danny Miller, Lucian Moreau, Stephen Reed, Cameron Serino, Donny Dunning, Matt Farnham and Ronda LeConte.
