The Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks tennis team still leads the Western Maine Class C standings with a 6-1 record.

Boothbay (3) vs. (2) Winthrop

On May 6, Boothbay bested Winthrop 3-2. “Monday against Winthrop tested our teams will. We watched our first two matches go on the court and lose,” Coach Alex Arsenault said. “Mackenzie playing through pain, and Angela, seeing their first action together as partners, looked strong and almost pulled out the victory. “Jessie Vander came on the court and played her best match of the season so far, winning her match. And first doubles played very strong and kept up the momentum winning their match.

“Shaylee came on the court knowing she had to win. She got down early 6-1 and then 8-3 after over two hours on the court she came back and won her match with pure guts. Winning in a tiebreaker 7-3 after being down in the tiebreaker 3-0. She played the toughest match of her career.”

Boothbay (1) vs. (4) Spruce Mountain

On May 3, the Lady Seahawks team suffered its first loss of the season against Spruce Mountain. “Against Spruce Mountain we looked sluggish off the long bus ride in warm ups and couldn't quite recover,” Arsenault said. “Jessie played tough, but couldn't quite come back in her match. And Courtney looked very good to start the match and couldn't quite hold on for the victory. Angela and Alison fought in their match also, but the doubles teams from Spruce Mountain were just too strong. Shaylee came out and played hard against her girl to keep them from sweeping us.”
