Y Dolphins complete regular season, seniors honored
The Boothbay Region YMCA Dolphin swim team completed its regular season on Saturday, March 20 with another virtual meet, where the times are recorded and sent to Maine Swimming for placement in the state standings. The virtual state meet will be held at YMCAs around the state on Saturday, April 3.
Saturday's meet featured honoring the team's three seniors, Maren Whitney, Ella Beauregard and Graham Harris. Each swimmer was introduced and their accomplishments and future plans were announced. Their parents were able to join them on deck to receive flowers, balloons and hugs.
Jennifer and Michael Whitney, and younger sister and Dolphin swimmer Annabelle Whitney, listened to Maren's accomplishments: Maren, who has swam competitively for 12 years, holds five current team records – 400 mixed senior free relay, 25 back senior women, 25 free senior women, 100 medley relay girls 14 and under, and 100 medley relay girls 8 & under. Maren plans to attend Southern Maine Community College in the fall.
Pam Pearce and Michael Beauregard got to hear Ella's accomplishments: Ella, who has swam competitively for six years, holds two current teams records: 400 mixed senior free relay and 100 individual medley senior women. Ella plans to attend and join the sailing team at Maine Maritime Academy in the fall.
Medea and Bruce Harris, and younger brother and Dolphin swimmer Ford Harris, listened as Graham's five current team records and career highlights were announced. Graham, who has swam competitively for 10 years, eight with the Dolphins, holds the BRYMCA record for the mile; has been invited to the Bates All-Star meet the last six years and qualified for the New England YMCA Championship in at least one event each of the last five years. His current team records include: 400 mixed senior free relay, 50 fly boys 14 & under, 200 back boys 14 & under, 1650 free senior men and 1000 free senior men. Graham has been accepted to attend Bowdoin, Northeastern, Quinnipiac, Providence and St. Lawrence and is waiting to hear from a couple of other colleges before making his final decision.
