Cormac Miller goes bowling
Although it's not the end, it's the end of a chapter for Cormac Miller.
The Boothbay Region High School senior won't be wearing the blue and gold on a football field again, but his high school career has one more game.
Miller, who was named most valuable player for the 2012 season, will represent the Seahawks in the 24th annual Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl. Miller, a defensive back, will suit up for the West squad.
While the game will be bittersweet for Miller, it's something he has been working toward for four years.
“I'm very excited,” he said. “I actually watched the game last year, and I thought 'That could be me.'”
Between last year's Lobster Bowl and this one, Miller lived up to those aspirations: he was named athlete of the month in September by BRHS coaches, then later named most valuable player.
Miller was nominated by his coaches then picked by the Maine Athletics Association.
He will be competing with the West squad, which includes other schools like Deering, South Portland, Fryeburg and Kennebunkport against the East team, which features players from school such as Camden, Bangor, Brewer and Lewiston.
The game will kick-off at 4 p.m. July 20 at Waterhouse Field in Biddeford.
Miller will be suiting up for the more successful of the two sides. The West team leads, 17-6, in the all-time series over East. Last year, West won, 48-24, in a barn-stormer.
Miller said he had a chance to meet several of the other players, but playing with other athletes from his conference presents a new challenge.
“I'll be playing with most of my rivals,” he said. “We'll have to work together.”
Next year, the Miller will play for Husson University in Bangor, but before that he said he's hoping to make an impact in Biddeford.
“I'm hoping to get a lot of tackles, maybe an interception,” he said. “All four years, I've worked hard for this.”
