Our own Olympics
To celebrate the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, sailors in Friday's morning class represented several different countries in our own version of the Olympic games. Sailors ran, swam, tied knots, and sailed to the finish line, and after some complex scoring algorithms and coin tosses, Charlie Alberino, Jane Dawson, and Cameron Langenhagen, representing China, won the gold medal. In a close second place was Canada, represented by Holden Langenhagen, Helmut Dungan, and Max Cameron, and in third place was the United States, represented by Samantha and Barrett Nichols, and Henry Barrett. Congratulations to all of BHYC’s junior Olympians!
Afternoon class racers were becalmed Friday and got ample opportunity to work on their light-air sailing skills. For the Optimist class, Matt McCuskey took home the blue ribbon, Ryan McCann grabbed the red, and Tess McComiskey received the yellow. 420 class racers Meredith McCuskey and won first for the day, followed by Sally McGee and Katherine Clark in second.
Six BHYC junior sailors traveled to Rockland this Sunday to compete in the 8th annual Red Jacket Youth Regatta at the Rockland Community Sailing Center. The regatta is geared toward inexperienced sailors looking to try their hand at racing in a friendly, informative, and laid-back environment. Boothbay ended up placing first overall thanks to a 2nd place finish in the Opti B division by Ryan Russell, a 1st place in Opti A fleet by brother Marcus Russell, a 2nd place finish by 420 B sailors Sally McGee and Corinne Poitras, and a 3rd place finish in 420 A fleet by Katherine Clark and Cory Wise. Sailors were under the instruction and supervision of coaches Sara Mac Swanson and Colin Phelan.
