St. Dom's knocks Lady Seahawks from playoffs
The Boothbay Region High School Lady Seahawks tennis team lost its third playoff game in three years by the same score, 3-2. The team went up against St. Dom's in an away game May 30. This season, the team lost all its away games.
“We played well and won the first set in three out of four matches,” said Coach Alex Arsenault. “Both our doubles teams played great games. We beat a lot of tough teams this year, but those away games …”
All away matches were played outdoors. Arsenault believes this put the Seahawks at a disadvantage because all home matches had to be played indoors due to the condition of the home courts.
Results: Shaylee Sibley lost 0-6, 0-6 to Kaitlin Thompson; Courtney Chaney lost 2-6, 0-6 to Callie Greco; Jessie Vander won the first match, 6-1, but lost the last two sets, 3-6, 5-7, to Alana Dyer; Alison Cook and Mackenzie Colby defeated Jen McClain and Zoe Caron, 6-4, 6-1; and Angela Machon and Dana Greenleaf also won their matches against Liza Gaylord and Emily Martin 6-3, 6-1.
“This was a team with a lot of heart,” Arsenault said. “They were disappointed, losing the first playoff game, especially the seniors. But, next year, when our outdoor courts are ready for action ….”
