Madison holds on to edge Boothbay, play-in game Saturday
Despite a strong fourth quarter defensive effort and four three-pointers from Gryffin Kristan in the final frame, the Boothbay Region Seahawks fell to the Madison Bulldogs, 67-62, at Porter Memorial Gymnasium Thursday, Feb. 10.
Boothbay trailed by 17 points going into the last eight minutes, 53-36, but the Seahawks stepped up their defense and cut the Bulldogs’ lead to only two points with under a minute to play by getting steals and using Kristan’s long-range shooting skill. However, Madison’s free throw shooting kept the Bulldogs from losing.
The Seahawks started out slow, trailing 22-8 after the first quarter, and had to battle back the whole game.
Kristan led Boothbay with 19 points. Lucas Hardwick and Connor Wenners each scored 12.
Callan Franziy had 24 points to lead Madison and Thomas Dean pitched in with 22. Kayden Hibbard, five of six from the foul line in the final quarter, added 13 for Madison.
Boothbay fell to 5-13 on the regular season and will host Wiscasset in a play-in tournament game on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
Madison improved to 11-7 and is in 9th place in Class C South.
