Former player takes over as head coach
The 2022 Boothbay Region High School field hockey season will begin Friday, Sept. 2 at home against Hall-Dale High School with new head coach Skyler Davis in charge of the roster of 20 ninth through 12th graders.
Davis, who played the sport locally from sixth grade through high school and assisted Boothbay Region Elementary School coach Charlinda Carlson last season, takes over for Alison Sirois, who chose not to return this season. Davis is also a third grade teacher at BRES
“We have a lot of potential,” said Davis on Sunday. “Several of the players got a lot of playing time last year.” BRHS graduated only three seniors.
The returning players include: senior co-captains Sydney Blake (last year’s co-MVP with graduate Mara Gentry) and Savannah Compare; juniors Avery Barter, Charlotte Fuchswanz, Ariel Alamo, Kari Blake and Meg Sledge; and sophomores Abbie Clark, Lily Nein and Magen Burge. Newcomers include juniors Kate Campbell and Sarah Kreft, sophomore Ivory Cody; and freshmen Tatum French, Ella Watts, Abby Amaral, Abby Orchard, Rose Campbell, Sophie White and Hannah Kreft.
Although the team lost its preseason game at Oceanside (Rockland) 9-2, the team played well despite missing a couple of players, said Davis.
The season opening game scheduled for Aug. 31 at Telstar has been changed to Monday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m., according to BRHS Athletic Director Allan Crocker.
