Maranacook topples Boothbay football 56-28
Maranacook has emerged as the early favorite in eight-man football small conference action. The Black Bears beat Boothbay (1-1), 56-28, Sept. 16 in scoring their second win of the season. In week one, Maranacook beat Dirigo, 34-28, to begin the season with two wins.
Boothbay (1-1) struggled in stopping the Black Bear offense. The Seahawks also couldn’t hold on to the ball. Boothbay had four turnovers – two lost fumbles and two interceptions. On offense, Kayden Ames rushed 19 times for 89 yards. He completed three passes on nine attempts for 53 yards. Drew Meader completed 10 of 18 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns. Boothbay’s Nate Schotte caught four passes for 93 yards and one touchdown. Aidric Canada was the team’s top receiver with five catches for 94 yards. Meader threw two other touchdown passes. Tyler Barter caught a 16-yard touchdown pass and Ames also registered a touchdown reception.
On defense, Seahawk leading tacklers were Dylan Plummer with 6.5 and Meader with six. Connor Wenners had five and Cayden Royal recorded four.
Boothbay plays at Old Orchard Beach Friday, Sept. 16 at 6:30 p.m. and returns home Sept. 23 to host Dirigo of Dixfield. The Cougars (1-1) defeated Old Orchard Beach (1-1) Friday night, 26-20.
