Welcome Nao Trinidad!
The Spanish Tall Ship, Nao Trinidad, the 200-ton, 95’ long Armada del Maluco replica has been in port at the Boothbay Harbor town landing off the Whale Park since Monday afternoon and tours of the ship will commence Friday through Sunday, Oct. 14 to 16.
Trinidad was commissioned by Fundación Nao Victoria in 2019, 500 years after the original was built, and boasts the original four masts, five sails and five decks. The Great Lakes voyage coincided with the 500th anniversary of the original’s sinking in Indonesia.
Fundación Nao Victoria is a nonprofit based in Seville, Spain which builds replicas of the country’s historical Galleon ships. Its fleet includes Nao Victoria, El Galeón and Nao Santa Maria and all have sailed the world to promote their histories. The Nao Santa Maria ported twice in Boothbay Harbor in recent years.
After Boothbay Harbor, Nao Trinidad will stop in Portland; Plymouth, Massachusetts; Bristol, Rhode Island; Greenport, New York; Wilmington, North Carolina; St. Augustine, Florida and will end its voyage in San Juan, Puerto Rico before winter sets in.
Tickets for touring the ship are $15 for adults, $5 for children and $35 for families and will be available at the gangway, but can be purchased online ahead of time at www.naotrinidad.org. Opening times will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
