Boothbay football entering postseason on winning note
Boothbay Region dominated Traip Academy, Oct. 14, with a 68-6 victory in Eight-Man Football Small Conference action. Boothbay bolted to a 22-0 halftime lead and played its first team for a few series in the second half before giving way to the second team. But the Seahawks continued their dominance until the end. Boothbay is now 2-5. Traip finished 0-7.
“It was just one of those games where we were just too big and too fast for Traip. They have a lot of younger players, and whether it was our first or second team, we just kept making plays,” Coach Ed Crocker said. On offense, Kayden Ames ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more. He completed five of seven passes for 138 yards. Ames rushed 17 times for 138 yards. Dylan Plummer was the team’s leading tackler with 4.5. He was also the top receiver with four receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Boothbay finished sixth in the Crabtree standings and will play Dirigo in Dixfield Friday night, Oct. 21 – time to be announced – in the playoffs. Dirigo, Old Orchard Beach and Maranacook Community School all finished tied for second with 5-2 records. During the regular season, Boothbay lost, 14-12, to Dirigo at Sherman Field. Crocker believes the Cougars are a “good draw” for his team. “They have a good two-man running game so our focus is defense, defense, defense. It was a hard fought game last time, but we made too many mistakes with turnovers and too many bad penalties. So I’m thinking this is a good opportunity for us.”
The Boothbay/Dirigo winner plays the Maranacook/Sacopee Valley winner in the conference semi-final round in two weeks.
