A memorable week for Mini Seahawks
The 3rd & 4th grade Mini Seahawk football team had a fabulous championship weekend starting with a trolley ride with police escort from their practice to a pep rally hosted by Brady's and Pier One Pizza. Over 80 people showed up to rally the kids and show their support for their accomplishment of making it to the big game. The kids enjoyed pizza, hot dogs, chicken tenders and a decorated cake. To make it even better, Darrell Gudroe provided a sound system with sports themed music to get the kids pumped which really livened up the event!
The Seahawk mascot was on hand to appear in pictures with all the players and coaches to the delight of all.
Saturday the kids had it cut out for them as they were matched up against Oceanside Elementary School in Rockland. The school has an enrollment three times that of Boothbay and in previous matchups the outcome had always been a little lopsided.
The Seahawks came with their game faces on ready to do battle, and battle they did! Owen James led the Seahawks with five touchdowns, followed by Ben Alley with three and QB Jaydon Copeland running one in on his own.
Both Owen and Jaydon shared in the extra point duties and the entire offensive line played an incredible game. Bryson Hersom had an interception which led to a TD for Boothbay. Dakota Hilgendorf recovered a fumble in a great defensive play which also led to Boothbay surging down the field.
The game ended after an epic 2 ½ hour battle and four overtimes with the much larger Oceanside edging Boothbay out by one point, 61-60. There is no doubt that the entire week will be talked about for a while and everyone is looking forward to what this great team will do in the future.
