Boothbay Special Olympians compete in soccer
On Wednesday Oct.19, the Boothbay Region Special Olympics soccer team traveled to Husson University to play games and compete in skills competition.Team members Vincent Giles and Jameson Brooks were home unable to attend. It has been a long wait to be back able to see and compete with friends.There was much chatter, happiness, and great weather. All day was “this is just much better, thank God we're back, this is great, I missed you, we so missed this!"
There were many teams represented at the games. Boothbay played game one against Penquis and came away with a 2-0 win. Grace Giles and Joey Ranco scored the goals. Danny Miller played fabulously in the goal and Donny Dunning assisted those attempts made. The offense was outstanding with hustle and back up.
In game 2, Boothbay lost to AYCC from Waterville 7-0. Sage Turnelle played wing and backed up a fabulous teammate Evan who seemed to run and control the game. Boothbay had a very hard time,, played well, but could only interfere with Evan. Valerie Giles ,Ronda LeConte and Joey Ranco worked very hard on offense.
In game 3 Boothbay played BBasso Bears who won 7-0. Grace Giles and Zander Blake worked hard to get into scoring position with assists from Ronda LeConte. They make several attempts on goal. Joey Ranco and Danny Miller worked the goal, stopped many attempts, but not enough.
In the skills area, Blake Chadwick came away with a gold medal competing in the 22-to-29-yea- old division. Piper Rankin came away with a bronze in the 16-to-21-year-old division, and Anthony Angelico came away with a bronze as well in the 12-to-15-year-old division.
