Three students bound for All-State Music Festival
In November, three members of the high school chorus auditioned for the All-State Music Festival and were accepted. Grace Campbell was selected for the mixed choir and Hannah Hills and Suzie Edwards were accepted into the treble choir.
Dr. Mary Miller began preparation at the beginning of the school year by teaching them the “Italian Aria” which was also used for their District III music festival audition. For All-State they also had to sing their part, against other voices, of a 16th century madrigal.
Unlike the district audition, in which all three girls also were also accepted, the All-State audition was recorded in three phases by Miller: The aria, the madrigal, and a scale to show their range. The recordings were judged by the same judges that also judged the live all state auditions, as there was a choice of how to audition.
The festival is in Orono, at the Maine Music Educators Conference, on May 18, 19, 20.
Coming up: Choral concert at the Southport Methodist Church at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15.
