Dirigo cruises past Boothbay
The defending Class C state boys champions Dirigo Cougars looked in tournament form as they handled the Boothbay Region Seahawks, 58-36, at Porter Memorial Gymnasium, BRHS Tuesday night.
Cold shooting and turnovers hurt the home team as Dirigo held Boothbay to just nine points in the middle two quarters. The Cougar defense and rebounding held the Seahawks to one shot most of the game.
The Cougars had three players in double figures, with Nathaniel Wainwright and Dakota Tompkins each having 15 points and Charlie Houghton pitching in with 12. As a team, Dirigo had seven three-pointers.
Finn Harkins led Boothbay with 13 points. Scoring six points each were Connor Wenners, Luke Morley and Kayden Ames.
In the junior varsity contest, the Cougars came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Seahawks, 44-39.
Boothbay (1-1) is scheduled to host the Lisbon Greyhounds on Saturday, Dec. 17 at 2:30 p.m. The junior varsity game begins at 1 p.m.
