Bristol defeats Boothbay in Busline League tourney
Boothbay Region Elementary School boys Wildcats played a hard game, but could not stop Bristol from winning the Busline League playoff game, 56-35, Feb. 6 at Bristol.
BRES played hard and made some headway in the second half, but it just was not enough.
“We knew what to do, but it was hard because they were bigger and more athletic,” said Coach Dennis Dacus. “We kept our cool and got some baskets in the second half, got it closer. Kids at this age (seventh and eighth grade) are still learning the game. I had 20 kids come out this year. Some were new to the game and others had been playing since they were in third grade.”
This season’s seventh and eighth grade players were Peyton Barter, Caleb Bates, Mathew Carpenter, Ellis Casey, Ethan Clark, Colby Doucette, David Frazel, Thomas Hennessy, Simon Hibbard, Alex Hughes, Aiden Jewett, Rick-Wyatt Jones, Chase Licursi, Aiden Locke, Jayden Orne, Cale Rogers, Royce Rogers, Ryan Hunter, Lessie White and Jackson Zehm.
“We were a diverse group. Everyone got better,” Dacus said. “Usually in middle school, you’re as good as your eighth grade players; we had 13 seventh graders come out this year, so, we’ll see.”
The Wildcats ended the season 7-7.
