BRHS Unified Basketball is 0-2-1
At home in Unified Basketball action Feb. 14, the Seahawks lost 54-71 to the Morse Shipbuilders. Over 100 people attended. The Seahawks jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in the first four minutes but were unable to maintain their point-advantage. The score was 18-38 Shipbuilders at the half.
From the tip-off, Matthias Fanslau scored a 3-pointer to open the game and went on to be leading scorer for the night with 17 points and two rebounds. Five of his baskets were 3-point scores, earning him the nickname “downtown.”
Other top performers include Brian Abbee with 11 points and five rebounds, and Grace Giles with 10 points and seven rebounds, the most rebounds of the team. Eddie Carpenter, Eric Maki, Austin Orne and Ryan Clark also scored.

Jeff Waldrop, instrumental music teacher at Boothbay Region High School, led the BRHS band playing snippets at game intervals and “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes at the half.
Sawyer Boulette, Special Olympics Maine director of Unified Champion Clubs, spoke at half time on the success of unified sports’ expansion during the pandemic.

Feb. 16, the Seahawks tied the Oak Hill Raiders 61-61 on the road. The BRHS Unified Basketball team traveled to Wales to take on the Raiders.
Grace Giles was the leading scorer with 24 points. Matthias Fanslau scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers. He also had two assists and six rebounds. Eric Maki scored 12 points and had six rebounds. Brian Abbee scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, and had two assists. Eddie Carpenter scored six points.
Every team member was rotated into play at game intervals. Suzie Edwards, Kate Campbell, Ryan Clark and Kari Blake were team helpers. Ted Clark was referee.
The Seahawks have two games left in their 2023 season. They travel to Hall-Dale High School Feb. 28, and their final game of the season is at home March 7 against Lincoln Academy.
