Boothbay Special Olympians compete at Alpine Winter Games
The 2023 Maine Special Olympics Alpine Winter Games were a huge success for the Boothbay Special Olympians.
The games were held at Lost Valley in Auburn, Maine on March 1. The weather was beautiful, warm and outstanding as were the athletes. We are so proud to announce that Zander Blake is the 6th fastest male in the state. All athletes have to meet certain criteria to advance levels. Zander skis at level 4 with the Advanced Level which is the top.
In level 2, Novice, Blake Chadwick and Piper Rankin skied very well. Blake returned with two silver medals. He skied very well not missing any gates and Piper finished with two fourth places.
In level 3, Intermediate, Donny Dunning was running very fast ski times in his division winning a 6th and a hard fought silver medal with huge improvements. Vincent Giles a consistent steady skier won a bronze and a gold. He was very happy to have meet the challenge. Danny Miller celebrating his great gold medal win knowing before he finished he had secured the gold. He also won a bronze. Anthony Angelico raced for the first time in division 3 winning two silver medals. Thank you goes to Joey Ranco for such good help training Anthony for level 3.
In level 4, the advanced level, Joey Ranco came away with a bronze and a gold; no surprise there. Ronda LeConte flying down the mountain came home with two silver medals.
Valerie Giles won a silver and a gold with a most improved skiing this season. Grace, one of the fastest female skiers, won a bronze and a gold and then with Zander Blake the youngest in level 4 but the 6th fastest in the state we couldn’t have been happier.
All the training and their performances paid off this Alpine /Winter Games season.
