Calling all gardeners! Support the library by donating plants

Tue, 05/16/2023 - 8:30am

Join us on Saturday, June 3, 9 a.m. to noon, when the gardeners of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library will offer their annual plant Sale & Silent Auction on the library lawn.

This year’s sale will feature all the perennial favorites, like day lilies, hostas, black-eyed Susans, tomato seedlings and herbs,, but this year’s sale will also emphasize native plants.

All plant donors, please make sure your plants are clearly labeled. We’re looking specifically for more plants that are native to Maine/New England, but will also take non-natives/cultivars. Try to pot up your divisions now so that they look healthy come plant sale day. It’s best to wash off the divided plants from your garden and pot up with potting soil to avoid any cross contamination. If any plant donors need potting soil, there is some under the Library stairs, and if we run out there please contact Liz at lizlussier@outlook.com.

All donations will be sold at the plant sale; all funds raised go to supporting library programs! Please drop off your donations Friday June 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If possible, please also bring boxes for gathering up plants and taking them home. We tend to run out early.

In addition to hundreds of plants, our good friends at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and Boothbay Region Clean Drinking Water Initiative will be on hand to provide educational materials on plants native to Maine/New England and the benefits of planting native. The Friends of the Library Used Book Store will also have a table with gardening related books for sale and Emily Barker and her students will be providing musical entertainment through the morning.

We hope to see you on June 3 on the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library Lawn for this fun event for a great cause. All proceeds will benefit the Library, which benefits our whole community!
