Southport Alumni - Family roots run deep
In the early 1980s, Mike Wallace’s family moved onto Southport Island so he could start his kindergarten year at Southport Central School. Years later, when he and his wife, Rachel decided it was time to start a family of their own, they both agreed that they wanted to make Southport Island their home so their children, Aurora and Brock, could have the same type of educational experience he had.
Mike says, “I can still name every teacher who taught me at the school and picture the time I spent in each of their classrooms. I remember Ramona Gaudette cooking in the cafeteria and Mrs. Elliott was the school’s secretary. I encourage any alumni who has as fond memories as I do, to step up and volunteer some of their time like I did or make a donation to help make the natural playground a reality for the next generation of Southport’s children.”
Donations in the form of checks should be made out to Southport Island Association, but either dropped off or mailed to the Southport Central School, 438 Hendricks Hill Road, Southport, ME 04576. Donations will be deposited into a special account held by the Southport Island Association, a 501(c) 3 organization. What can you do to help build the playground?
