Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library
There is really no mystery regarding this weather. For the past few weeks there has been nothing but rain, rain, and more rain. According to NOAA this pattern will continue for…how long, we don’t know?
Consequently, I see lots of hoodies and umbrellas around town as tourists search for something to see and do. To escape the rain, there are museums, theaters, inside shopping, and of course our local library. You can check the library's web site (bbhlibrary.org) for information on current programs, events, Author talks, and hours.
On July 14 at 1 p.m., Barbara Ross, one of Maine's most popular mystery writers, will be giving a book talk on her latest Clambake Mystery: “Hidden Beneath.” The talk will take place on the library's front lawn. Barbara's novels are written in the genre “Cozy Mysteries.” Watch out also for “Scared Off” coming in August, a spooky but fun Julia Snowden mystery set during Halloween season.
If you prefer a thriller, you might also try S.A. Cosby's Southern Noir-Crime Thrillers. Currently on the waiting list is the most recently published “All the Sinner's Bleed.” Then go back and check out his New York Times bestseller “Razorblade Tears.”
For a good detective story, Canadian author Linwood Barclay really fits the bill. My favorite of hers “Take Your Breath Away” was nominated for Best Crime Novel by Crime Writers of Canada.
Australian author Kate Morton's “Homecoming” will take you on an epic mystery that spans continents and generations. I loved it!
“The Distant Dead” by Heather Young is slow moving but gripping right up to the end. The characters are complex and well-drawn out. Don't miss this one!
Find a dry spot, open a cover, dive in and enjoy some of the best mystery books written today.
Happy reading mystery lovers.
