Fish & Game Assoc. Turkey Shoot to be held Oct. 8
An old-fashioned “Turkey Shoot” has been a tradition in Maine and throughout the Northeast for ages. The Boothbay Region Fish & Game Association has been hosting Turkey Shoots for decades, a tradition in its own right.
Historically, the club has held weekly events starting the last Sunday in September and each successive Sunday through the end of October. Unfortunately, over the last half decade, weekly participation has dwindled to only a few competitors. In an attempt to rejuvenate participation levels, the BRF&GA will hold a single Turkey Shoot this year on Sunday, Oct. 8.
The one-day event, which is family friendly and open to the public, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the club property at 447 Dover Road in Boothbay. There will be a registration fee of $10 per non-member participant, but is free to all current club members who have paid their 2023 dues. Registration will begin at 9 a.m.
Events will include a Shotgun “Card Shoot”, a .22 Rimfire Shoot, Shotgun Skeet Shoot, 100-yard Bench Shoot and a 100-yard Offhand Shoot. Event fees are $2 per single entry or $3 for two entries. Frozen food prizes such as turkeys, hams, and roasts will be awarded to the winners of each event.
In addition, the club will hold a 50/50 cash raffle with the winner to be drawn at the end of the day (must be present to win). There will also be raffle tickets available for purchase to be eligible to win a new Hammerli TAC R1 .22 rifle based on an AR-style platform. Tickets are priced at 1 for $5, 3 for $10, or 6 for $15, and the drawing will take place at the close of the Turkey Shoot. The winner need not be present to win the rifle.
Burgers, hot dogs, coffee and cold drinks will be available at nominal cost at the club’s Snack Shack.
