Special Olympians compete in soccer
The Boothbay Region Special Olympics soccer team competed at the Soccer Skills and Team Competition held at Husson University in Bangor on Wednesday, Oct .18.
Blake Chadwick was elated when he returned with a silver medal for his soccer skills. He scored the highest for speed, precision, and passing which is one of the skills. It was the highest score in his age group for that skill. He did very well in three other categories, too.
There were 12 teams playing games.
Game 1 was against Momentum. Momentum has Dean Pribish, a friend of Ronda’s and Amber ’s who was a mighty player for their team. They had a blast and worked so hard trying to score.
Boothbay was fierce in game one but couldn’t seem to score enough points. Valerie Giles, Grace Giles, Piper Rankin, Joey Ranco and Ronda LeConte moved the ball fast and well but seemed to just have “exact" scoring problems. They had many of attempts on goal. Vincent Giles with Anthony Angelico and Danny Miller in the goal worked very hard. Joey Ranco scored a great goal with the assist coming from Valerie Giles. Boothbay lost 4-1.
Boothbay’s final game was played against Living Innovations. Our defense teams were ready. Donny Dunning and Anthony Angelico worked and sent the balls back very well. Anthony Angelico and Danny Miller in defense did it as well, too. Amber Hyson and Danny Miller preformed equally as well. Ronda LeConte tied the score with a beautiful assist from Joey Ranco but as the story goes with a couple of seconds left Living Innovations scored goal 2.
Boothbay returned proud, exhausted, and happy after such a busy day with a 4th place for their efforts. Coaches as well as volunteers, Cormac and Zac Miller were very pleased.
