Dear Editor:

We want to thank everyone who helped contain the fire on  Squirrel Island that occurred on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 19) and into the night. We are so appreciative of all who helped — the Southport Fire Department, the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department, the Boothbay Fire Department, the Coast Guard, and the many volunteers who provided boats to bring firefighters and equipment to the island as well as providing other support.

We are fortunate that so many people joined in and helped our island team — Rob Hopkins, Tony Hyson and Mike Witwicki .The fire was contained, and no one was hurt. We send our heartfelt gratitude to all.

We are indeed thankful to be part of this community.
